John D. Phillips, Project Manager / Estimator

John provides over 34 years of experience in multiple types of construction and design to Huffco Services. Having begun his career in Texas in the fields of steel detailing, engineering design, and architecture, John attended Modesto College in California, majoring in Construction Sciences. An eight- year period as Owner/President of a residential and light commercial design business in a resort area near Yosemite National Park provided invaluable experience in various forms of development as well as business. His firm's significant projects included condominium projects, retail centers and a branch bank.

Subsequent to his design business, John joined a major California based savings and loan as a Facilities Project Manager for development of new facilities. As the institutional field faltered, John was recruited into the 'real estate owned' (REO) segment of the institution as a Senior Project Manager. The REO position was responsible for asset recovery and stabilization, redefinition of project scope, budgeting and completing large, partially developed projects. The most significant local project was the successful design and build out of an eight-story building for the City of Houston Health and Human Services department within a restricted time frame and budget. Accepting a transfer to Texas, John's project management position evolved into one of asset management. The remaining years with the institution, as an Asset Manager, were directed toward the operation and disposition of assets under the savings and loan's new ownership of Robert Bass.

The past several years prior to joining Huffco Services, John was the Southern Regional Construction and Development Manager for a public, then private, self-storage company based in Missouri. Initially, John was in charge of capital improvement projects for approximately 65 existing facilities spread from Dallas, Texas, to Key West, Florida. Ownership restructuring changed the focus of the company to new property development, with John being responsible for the south Florida region. John's successful tenure included the completion and opening of four new facilities encompassing 485,000 square feet, including a 10-story facility, billed as the 'Tallest Self-Storage Facility' in the country, located in downtown Miami.

John's varied experience provides Huffco Services with additional management skills for estimating, scheduling and completing projects on time, to the benefit of Huffco Services' clients.
